Task description and requirements

VMWare Virtualization - OpenShift (Kubernetes, Ansible, Cloud; AWS, Azure, GCP - Technical Experts. ACM / ACS & ODF Freelance/contract - remote EU - Europe.

We seek a number of OpenShift VMware virtualisation experts in EU.

Freelance/contract only.

EU based - remote is OK. Some may be required to travel, depends on experience & Customer.

Ideal experience:

ACM - Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes

* Purpose: Centralized management of multiple Kubernetes/OpenShift clusters.
* Key Features:
* Multi-cluster management: Deploy, monitor, and govern clusters across hybrid/multi-cloud environments.
* Policy enforcement: Apply security, compliance, and configuration policies across clusters.
* GitOps support: Integration with ArgoCD for continuous deployment.
* Governance & risk: Monitor and fix policy violations automatically.
* Use Case: Ideal for organizations running multiple OpenShift/K8s clusters across on-prem and cloud.


ACS - Advanced Cluster Security (formerly StackRox)

* Purpose: Security solution for containers and Kubernetes environments.
* Key Features:
* Runtime security: Detect and block suspicious behavior in containers and clusters.
* Vulnerability management: Scan images, deployments, and clusters for known CVEs.
* Network segmentation: Enforce network policies to limit lateral movement.
* Policy enforcement: Secure development pipeline with pre-deployment checks.
* Use Case: Essential for DevSecOps and compliance in containerized workloads.


ODF - OpenShift Data Foundation

* Purpose: Provides persistent, software-defined storage for OpenShift.
* Built On: Red Hat Ceph Storage (Rook/Ceph)
* Key Features:
* Block, file, and object storage: For apps running in OpenShift
* Dynamic provisioning: Storage auto-allocates based on app requirements
* Multicloud object gateway: S3-compatible object storage
* High availability: Distributed, resilient storage
* Use Case: Needed when apps in OpenShift require persistent volumes, especially stateful workloads like databases.


Virtualization

Skills commonly associated with managing and deploying virtual machines and infrastructure:

* Hypervisors: Knowledge of Type 1 (bare-metal) and Type 2 (hosted) hypervisors (e.g., KVM, Hyper-V, VMware ESXi)
* Networking: Virtual switches, VLAN tagging, NAT, bridging, and routing
* Storage Management: NAS/SAN, virtual disk provisioning, IOPS tuning
* Resource Allocation: CPU/memory tuning, resource pooling
* Monitoring & Performance Tuning: Tools like Nagios, Prometheus, or Grafana

Red Hat OpenShift

A container platform built on Kubernetes. Skills needed:

* Kubernetes (K8s): Deep understanding of pods, services, deployments, config maps, and secrets
* Containerization: Docker/Podman experience (building, deploying, managing containers)
* CI/CD Pipelines: Integration with Jenkins, GitLab CI, Tekton
* OpenShift CLI (oc): Proficiency in command-line management of clusters
* Operators & Helm Charts: Managing and deploying applications using Operators or Helm
* Networking & Ingress: Routes, ingress controllers, service mesh (e.g., Istio)
* Security: Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Security Context Constraints (SCC), OAuth integrations
* Persistent Storage: Dynamic volume provisioning, Ceph, NFS, GlusterFS
* Monitoring & Logging: Prometheus, Grafana, EFK/ELK stack in OpenShift


VMware (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, NSX, etc.)

Skills associated with managing VMware-based virtualized environments:

* vSphere & vCenter: VM lifecycle management, snapshots, cloning, templates
* ESXi: Host setup, configuration, patching
* NSX: Network virtualization, micro-segmentation, firewall rule configuration
* vSAN: Hyper-converged storage, performance tuning, cluster setup
* vMotion/DvMotion: Live migration, distributed resource scheduling (DRS)
* VMware Tools & Guest OS Integration: Enhancing VM performance and management
* Automation: vRealize Suite, PowerCLI scripting for infrastructure automation
* Disaster Recovery: Site Recovery Manager (SRM), replication strategies


Bonus: Cross-Platform Skills

* Linux Admin: Strong RHEL/CentOS or Ubuntu server skills
* Scripting: Bash, Python, or PowerShell
