Personal summary

I am an editor and journalist with 20 years’ worth of experience but am presently looking to move into professional proofreading. I worked in a corporate environment for nine years and then as a freelance for a further 10 years. However, in 2018, I moved to China and started work as a university English teacher, initially with the British Council. I taught IELTS to undergraduates, working f/t for the Australian Higher Education Network, based in Guangzhou, China. Prior to this I taught oral English f/t in a university in Hunan, China. I have produced and edited high-quality copy to deadline for publications as diverse as The Sunday Times, Sunday Herald, Sunday Business Post (Ireland), Business Insider, Estates Gazette, Retail Week and Drapers, among others. Before becoming a freelance journalist, I was a regional editor with commercial property publication, Estates Gazette. In this role I honed my business-editing skills and developed a keen eye for detail. I also organised the ‘Base Glasgow’ sustainability conferences, which won the best conference accolade at the Scottish Events Awards. As content director, I edited its website and liaised with stakeholder organisations involved in creating a low-carbon economy, including public sector bodies, non-governmental organisations, academia and corporations. I have produced marketing newsletters for businesses, utilising a range of digital media, from website content to interactive brochures, as well as more traditional print formats. I also conducted media training classes, helping clients achieve a better understanding of the press and have acted as copywriter for company financial reports.
